2nd Annual Virgin Islands Boating Expo (VIBE) Puts Destination on Global Marine Business Map – Next VIBE May 14-16, 2026

2nd Annual Virgin Islands Boating Expo (VIBE) Puts Destination on Global Marine Business Map – Next VIBE May 14-16, 2026

St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Millions of dollars’ worth of yachts by globally recognized manufacturers were on display, and ready for purchase or charter, at the 2nd Virgin Islands Boating Expo (VIBE). Over the four-day event, hosted by the Virgin Islands Professional Charter Association (VIPCA), May 15-18, 2025, at IGY’s Yacht Haven Grande, hundreds of residents and visitors walked the docks. They toured the fleet of Axopar (Sagramoso Yachting), Bali (Pyper Yachts), Azimut & Cigarette Racing (Wally Castro Marine), Fountaine Pajot (Atlantic Cruising Yachts & Waypoint Yacht Charters), Jeanneau (St. Thomas Leisure Boat Charters), Lagoon (Caribe Yacht Group), and Grady White, Nor-Tech and Tiara (Boat Management Corp.) sailing and power boats. Daily seminars, sailing demonstrations, and a Vendor Expo were also set against the incredible destination and cultural backdrop of the U.S. Virgin Islands. With steel pan musicians,Caribbean dancers, local bands, cuisine, and local drinks, VIBE proved the ultimate “destination” yacht sales show for a second year. Mark your calendars now for VIBE May 14-16, 2026!

“VIBE 2025 was a tremendous success, and I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who helped make this event so special,” says Staci Smith, Executive Director of VIPCA. “We’re thrilled to already have strong commitments from exhibitors, vendors, and sponsors for next year, and we’re looking forward to building on this momentum to deliver an even bigger and better show in 2026.”

Yachts Star!

Now entering its third year, the U.S. Virgin Islands’ premier yacht sales show is family-friendly. VIBE was created as a destination boutique-style boat show where the public can meet with yachting representatives, enjoy refreshments and entertainment, and network with local, national, and international business in St. Thomas, which Caribbean Journal in 2021 called the ‘Hottest Yachting Destination in the Caribbean’.

“We saw nearly 100 people on the first day of the show. Four to five groups traveling from Texas, Pennsylvania, and Florida specifically for VIBE. Others were hotel guests who saw the show happening and attended,” says Dare Blankenhorn, owner of Charter Caribe, a luxury charter yacht sales and management company based in St. Thomas. “Half of all new catamarans purchased in North America are put into charter. VIBE offers a chance to buy a boat in one of the most outstanding yachting destinations in the world, whether it’s to enjoy privately, put into charter, or use commercially for day charters.”

Charter Caribe displayed the bookends of its crewed charter fleet, the Lagoon 77, Aeolus, and the Lagoon 46, On A Whim III. The company also showcased a Lagoon 42 cruising catamaran for sale.

Atlantic Cruising Yachts, a Fort Lauderdale, FL-headquartered dealer for Fountaine Pajot, and Waypoints Yacht Charters, a bareboat company with a base in St. Thomas, jointly featured the Fountaine Pajot Victoria 67, True Story, and Fountaine Pajot Aura 51 G3

“What better way to own a boat and use it than to put it in bareboat charter with us,” says Susan Restauri, senior project manager for Waypoints Yacht Charters, who also presented a seminar on ‘Placing your boat into Bareboat Charter.’ “We bring yachts into the fleet as a business ownership model, with tax and other advantages for the owner, where we charter them, maintain them, and they remain in good shape when the owner eventually wants to take them out of charter or sell them.”

Powerboat enthusiasts enjoyed touring the Axopar 45 Cross Top, which was the brands entrance into the Caribbean market; the 37 Axopar Sun Top, the most popular in the Virgin Islands for private use and as a water taxi; and the 29 Axopar Cross Cabin, a fast boat with enclosed cabin that is also showing for the first time in the Caribbean.

“We’ve opened a new location on St. Thomas at Tropical Marina, which houses our sales offices and service center,” says Roberto Sagramoso, of Sagramoso Yachting, the exclusive dealer for Axopar, as well as Pardo Yachts and Grand Soleil Yachts in Puerto Rico, the U.S., and the British Virgin Islands.

VIBE Best in VI to Buy & Charter a Boat

There are many advantages to buying a boat in the USVI. Particularly important is that the territory is outside the U.S. Customs Zone and has its own Customs laws, which exempt importation of vessels, boats, and their running gear from Customs duties. Foreign-built, non-imported yachts to the U.S. can be sold or chartered to U.S. residents in the U.S. Virgin Islands without being imported to the U.S. first. Also, because of the USVI exemption from the Jones Act, chartering foreign-built and foreign-flagged yachts in U.S. waters is permitted here.

Understanding the financing needed to purchase a boat was a seminar topic presented by Zack Hamric, who, with his wife Greta, owns Azul Marine Lending in Sarasota, FL. The company annually finances $100,000 to $45 million in yacht loans for U.S., Puerto Rico, and Caribbean clients.

“We’ve developed an AI underwriting system where we can get a 95% approval rate in 24 hours thanks to long and successful relationships with lenders,” says Hamric.

Nearly 50 local and global businesses participated in VIBE’s Vendor Expo, including the UVI Research and Technology (RT) Park, which helps locally based businesses with tax incentives, funding, and growth opportunities. “The RT Park is an economic development agency that seeks to diversify the economy with knowledge and tech-focused companies,” says Torhera Durand, sustainable development associate.

Rainman Desalination, a Sydney, Australian-headquartered company that manufactures watermakers and saltwater desalination systems for marine use, introduced its new fully automated watermaker. “Yachts in the higher end range of 60- to 80-feet want push-button convenience. We’re currently in beta testing and expect to have it generally available in three months,” says Ron Schroeder, managing director.

Other participating vendors included VI Lottery, Charter Smarter, Pyper Yachts, Wally Castro Marine, Boat Management Corp., St Thomas Leisure Boat Charters, Cardow Jewelers, Caribtrans, Chef Nathan Neibaur, LaVela, Lift Foils, Natural Balance, Newcoast Financial, Peter Island Resort & Spa, Reef Response, Riteway Food Markets, Sail Frenchtown, STEEMCC, St John SailSack Co., Techness Pro, Tropless Beach LLC, VIBE Jewelry, and local food and drink booths.

The St. Thomas Sailing Center offered sails on its fleet during the show and provided information on its membership and many learn-to-sail programs, including Bareboat Certification.

First Annual Virgin Islands Boating Expo (VIBE) — A Marine Business & Destination Success — Next VIBE May 15-17, 2025

St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Over 63 million dollars worth of yachts by name brand manufacturers were on display, ready for purchase, at the inaugural Virgin Islands Boating Expo (VIBE), hosted by the Virgin Islands Professional Charter Association (VIPCA), May 10-12, 2024, at IGY’s Yacht Haven Grande. Over the three-day event, hundreds of residents and visitors walked the docks and toured the fleet of Leopard, Lagoon, Fountaine Pajot, Bali, Aquilla Power Cat, Azumit, and Boston Whalers. Opportunities to learn about yacht ownership as a charter business, listen to seminars on the unique-to- the-USVI tax exemptions and economic marine business incentives, and look at the latest in yacht equipment and services from fifty local and global vendors, were set against the incredible destination and cultural backdrop that is the U.S. Virgin Islands. Steel pan bands to drummers, stilt-walking Mocko Jumbies to Bamboula dancers, upscale Caribbean cuisine to local drinks, VIBE proved the ultimate “destination” yacht sales show. Mark your calendars now for VIBE May 15-17, 2025!

“It is with pride that we congratulate the team behind the Virgin Islands Boating Expo on a successful event,” shared Commissioner Joseph Boschulte of the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism. “As a community, many people from the Virgin Islands are deeply connected to the boating and marine industries, and shows like VIBE help to continue expanding the depth of our marine industry. We look forward to welcoming new yachting visitors to fall Naturally in Rhythm.”

YACHTS STAR AT VIBE
The U.S. Virgin Islands’ first yacht sales show was open to the public, everyone from residents to visitors. This differs from VIPCA’s USVI Charter Yacht Show in November, a B2B event for charter yacht brokers to see the yachts, meet the crews, and book charter yacht vacations. Like, but purposely unlike the three top yacht sales shows in the world – The Cannes Yachting Festival in France, Monaco Boat Show in Monaco, and Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in Florida – VIBE was created as a destination boutique-style B2C show where there is time and space for 1:1 interactions, and in St. Thomas, what Caribbean Journal called the ‘Hottest Yachting Destination in the Caribbean’.

“As a result of participating in the show, we received good interest from attendees, hot leads to go home with, and business deals we didn’t anticipate,” says Maryka Niemand, chief marketing officer for Pyper Yachts, the exclusive sales partner in the Caribbean for McConaghy Boats, which showcased its charter management, yacht management, yacht maintenance, and yacht sales divisions at VIBE.

Lagoon Catamarans were represented by their Caribbean Dealer, Caribe Yacht Group. They had five beautiful catamarans on display ranging from 51’ to 77’, all fully outfitted and ready for luxury cruising and charter. Caribe Yacht Group is a full-service operation within the U.S. Virgin Islands with a dealership, service center, and full management programs for private yachts and charter yachts.

“Turns out a destination show in the Virgin Islands is highly attractive to both visitors and locals alike! We had several clients fly in to meet with us at the show, which was expected,” says Stephen McCauley, a sales broker with the Caribe Yacht Group, the company’s sales arm. “We were pleased with the additional leads that came through from the mainland, and most importantly we were thrilled with the new connections that we made from here in the islands. We also received multiple inquiries for our charter business from people staying on the island and interested in new Caribbean vacation ideas. Overall, we had a great experience, and are excited for the future of VIBE!”

World Cat of South Florida attended VIBE, due to its many customers in the U.S. Virgin Islands for which the company does bi-annual service and warranty work.

“Our boats are ideal for day charters or tenders for superyachts,” says Bruce Wade, co- owner of the company, with locations in Fort Lauderdale and Naples, FL, who showcased Picaroon’s Parlay, a 2024 32-foot World Cat currently owned and operated by Fly Away Charters in St. John, USVI. “We had a steady response from attendees to VIBE with inquiries for purchase and charter.”

USVI – THE DESTINATION TO BUY & OPERATE A BOAT
Daily seminars were hosted at the Harbor360 Vendor Expo, with standing room only
for Saturday’s talk on ‘Why Ownership, Taking Delivery, and Operating a Vessel in the USVI is Beneficial’ presented by Attorneys Renee Marie Andre and Georgeann McNicholas of Marjorie Rawls Roberts, P.C. and Attorney David A. Bornn, Of Counsel to the Firm.

“The USVI is outside the U.S. Customs Zone and has its own Customs laws, which exempts importation of vessels, boats, and their running gear from Customs duties,” said David A. Bornn in the presentation. “Foreign-built, non-imported yachts to the U.S. can be sold or chartered to U.S. residents in the U.S. Virgin Islands without being imported to the U.S. first. Also, because of the USVI exemption from the Jones Act, chartering foreign-built and foreign-flagged yachts in US waters is permitted here. Attorneys Andre and McNicholas discussed other favorable tax exemptions unique to the USVI and easy-to-complete registration procedures, many online, for operating boats in the territory.”

Some 50 local and global businesses participating in the Harbor360 Vendor Expo sponsored by the Virgin Islands Lottery showcased marine-oriented products and services to complement a yacht or charter business. One was financial service companies such as Azul Marine Lending, based in Sarasota, FL, which provides marine loans for clients in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean from $100,000 to $25 million.

“It’s a complex and somewhat niche business often beyond what some traditional banking institutions provide. As such, we have developed an AI underwriting system where we can get a 95% approval rate in 24 hours thanks to long and successful relationships with lenders. That helps us develop successful programs for our clients,” says Zack Hamric, who with his wife Greta, are company principals.

Another of the VIBE vendor exhibitors was Rainman, an Australian-headquartered company that makes water makers and saltwater desalination systems for marine use.

“As charter yachts get bigger and carry more guests, water needs increase. We introduce at VIBE a new high output 70 gallon-an-hour watermaker designed for the unique needs of charter yachts here in the Virgin Islands, says Peter Pieschel, of VIable Marine Solutions, a dealer for Rainman in the USVI.

Offshore Marine, based in St. Thomas for over 40 years and a top boat dealer and outboard sales facility, displayed an AB 10AL tender, Yamaha F25, and Yamaha Inverter Generator 2200.

“The exposure, and a chance to touch base with our customers and meet new ones, was why it was important for us to participate in VIBE,” says Abrie Cilliers, owner.

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS CULTURE SHINES AT VIBE
VIBE’s Food & Wine Experience, an exclusive opportunity to enjoy an upscale wine- paired luncheon of Caribbean flavors like Seafood Kallaloo and Jerk Lamb Chops at Cutlass & Cane, proved a delicious way for attendees to take a break from touring yachts.

“I’ve worked with VIPCA on their fall charter show and enjoyed it,” says Alafia Rawlins, owner of Cutlass & Cane. “When I heard about VIBE, I wanted to get in on the launch of it.”

Daily yacht viewings combined with live music from bands such as Full Circle, Top Notch, Reggae Dynasty, and Lourdes and the Switch, to name a few, and a special Saturday Bamboula performance by the Caribbean Ritual Dancers.

“There is a place and time for everything, and with very strong support by the USVI Department of Tourism at a moment in history when the U.S. Virgin Islands is leading the Caribbean not only as a travel destination but as a yachting destination, we know that VIBE 2024 is the beginning of something big in boat shows. Whether attending as a guest or exhibitor, we’ve curated VIBE to bring you what you deserve, that is a high-end luxury experience,” says VIBE Director and VIPCA Executive Director, Oriel Blake.

Bali’s on Display

Three Bali Catamarans – the 5.4, 4.8, and 4.6 – featured by Hollywood, Florida-headquartered Catamaran Guru, will join the exhibiting fleet of yachts for sale including a full range of Lagoons, a selection of Fountaine Pajots, plus Azumits, and Boston Whalers to name a few. The Bali 5.4 earned Multihull of the Year in 2019 by Multihulls World magazine and its French-language counterpart, Multicoques Mag. In 2021, the editors at SAIL magazine in their ‘The Latest in Multihull Design’ article dubbed the Bali 4.8 ‘a great vacation choice when on charter’. The 4.6 was in the running for Cruising World’s Boat of the Year award for 2022.

“Bali Catamarans are a forward-thinking design with open space in mind,” says Stephen Cockcroft, co-founder of Catamaran Guru with wife Estelle, and the company’s exclusive buyers’ broker and large catamaran specialist. “The tilting rear door allows for maximum space either when you want to have open cockpit space and the largest living space when the weather is bad, and the door is down. Bali also has a solid foredeck with a door at the front to access it. This forward space is unmatched by any other brand. Flybridges are also large with lots of seating and usable space.”

Bali Catamarans is a 2014-launched brand of cruising catamaran built and sold by the Catana Group, a Canet-en-Roussillon, France-headquartered company founded in 1984.

The U.S. Virgin Islands offers a business-friendly environment for buying and selling yachts, thanks to its use of the U.S. dollar, U.S. banking institutions, and exclusive tax incentives. With no sales tax and duty-free allowances for vendors, the territory provides favorable conditions for conducting yacht transactions. Additionally, the well-established and highly successful charter industry in the USVI presents opportunities to speak directly with local company representatives about purchasing a vessel for income-producing crewed charters.

Boutique Hotel to Stay

The Pink Palm is one of the newest small hotels in the heart of historic Charlotte Amalie and within walking distance of VIBE. This year, the 27-room property with a rooftop pool overlooking the yachts in the harbor picked up three impressive kudos. The first is a listing on The Cool List: The Coolest Hotels in the Caribbean for 2024, and the second is being named Best Boutique Hotel in St. Thomas, USVI, both by Caribbean Journal. The third is a coveted listing on National Geographic’s Best of the World hotels list for 2024, one of only 22 awe-inspiring accommodations.

Press Release VIBE November 2023

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 27, 2023

St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Test drive the latest experience in yacht buying at the first-annual Virgin Islands Boating Exhibition (VIBE). Set for May 10-12, 2024, at Yacht Haven Grande St. Thomas, in the U.S. Virgin Islands and organized by the Virgin Islands Professional Charter Association (VIPCA), the stage is set for this 2.0 boat show that combines an exclusive boutique ‘vibe’ in a tropical paradise destination all under the U.S. flag. It’s the perfect platform for the trailblazing main event: a chance to stroll the docks to see a curated showcase of new yachts and then take them for a test drive just beyond the marina in one of the world’s most spectacular cruising grounds. The secondary event is a Food and Wine Caribbean experience, producing an event unlike any other boat show. Already, Lagoon, Bali, and Fountaine Pajot are all on board as exhibitors.

“These yachts were built for crystal-clear turquoise waters and sun-drenched beaches, which is why America’s Caribbean Paradise is home to a flourishing charter yacht industry and why St. Thomas is the perfect backdrop for this boutique, luxurious, and intimate show. VIBE delivers a state-of-the-art yachting experience in a climate of Caribbean culture; it’s the first truly ‘destination-style’ boat show,” says Oriel Blake, Executive Director, VIPCA.

Lagoons on Display

Brand new 2024 Lagoons, featured by Lagoon Catamarans and the Caribe Yacht Group, will be on display at VIBE. These include the flagship Lagoon 77, also marketed as the Lagoon SEVENTY7, the Lagoon SIXTY7 power catamaran, and two new designs in the Lagoon 55 and Lagoon 51. These models have been shown globally, but VIBE will mark the first display of these vessels fully kitted out with luxury interior and exterior design elements, the latest toys, and a full crew. This means show attendees can get unique-to-VIBE a fully immersive experience on a test drive, whether soaking up the sights of St. Thomas and the Caribbean Sea on spacious comfortable flybridges outside, or inside through large vertical saloon windows.

“Lagoon catamarans are favored by both private owners and those interested in charter management due to their reputation for quality, comfort, and performance. Our yachts offer a combination of features and support that cater to a wide range of preferences and needs, making them a versatile choice for both private use and charter operations,” says Aurore Bordage, Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based marketing manager, Groupe Beneteau.

Since 1984, Lagoon has built over 7,000 catamarans from 40’ to 78’ LOA, underscoring the Bordeaux, France-headquartered manufacturer as a world leader in this market.

Luxe Vacation Experience Awaits

St. Thomas is known as a fine dining destination. Cutlass & Cane, the newest restaurant in Yacht Haven Grande St. Thomas, is a superb example with its Michelan-worthy seafood menu, crafted mixology offerings, and opulent decor all set waterfront. Cutlass & Cane has partnered with VIBE to produce the show’s ‘Food & Wine Experience’ with lunch served from Noon to 3 p.m. including wine pairings daily. Tickets can be purchased as an add-on to any General Admission VIBE ticket and are included in VIP tickets. General Admission VIBE ticket sales start at $49 per day, plus the Food & Wine Experience add-on at $49.

“Our chefs have been formally educated and trained in some of the best restaurants all over the world, yet we are very much still Caribbean with a sophisticated, international flair,” says owner, Alafia Rawlins. “As such, dishes such as our Braised Oxtails and Caribbean Whelks (akin to l ‘escargot) and our local fish are some of our standouts.”

Strong show partnerships have translated into reduced room rates at some of St. Thomas’ top hotels and resorts such as the Westin Beach Resort & Spa at Frenchman’s Reef; The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas; Margaritaville Vacation Club St. Thomas; and Bluebeards. This creates an opportunity for a luxurious vacation and boat show combined.

Perched on a peninsula overlooking the Charlotte Amalie harbor and the Caribbean Sea, the 2023-re-opened and fully re-imagined Westin Beach Resort & Spa is less than two miles by land or sea from VIBE’s venue at the Yacht Haven Grande St. Thomas marina. This freshly refurbished hotel features the brand’s iconic Heavenly Bed, five diverse restaurants from American to Mediterranean and Asian Fusion, three ocean-view pools where you can cast a glance over to VIBE, and an adventure beach featuring a fleet of Hobie Cats, kayaks, standup paddleboards, beach toys, and snorkel gear to explore the surrounding sparkling Caribbean waters.

“Guests will also have access to the HeavenlySpa by Westin, a sanctuary of self-care offering the ultimate relaxation and pampering. The spa will feature 13 treatment rooms and a menu of signature health and wellness treatments. It’s a wonderful place for guests to enjoy a little rest and relaxation during the show,” says Jennifer Stromberg, marketing manager.

Room rates at the Westin Beach Resort & Spa at Frenchman’s Reef are discounted by nearly 30% to US $445/night single or double, with a water shuttle servicing the five-minute distance to VIBE.

The Right Time & Place

It’s the right time and place for a next-level shake-up to standard boat sales shows. First, the growth in post-pandemic travel is fueling growth in global recreational boating to more than $44 billion by 2027, according to the January 2023-released report, Recreational Boating Global Market Report, by UK-headquartered The Business Research Company. Secondly, the Caribbean was one of the global regions with the fastest post-pandemic tourism recovery, and the U.S. Virgin Islands is at the forefront with a 44% increase in arrivals compared to 2019, according to statistics from the Caribbean Tourism Organization. Add to this that St. Thomas was named the Hottest Yachting Destination in the Caribbean in 2021 by Caribbean Journal.

That’s not all.

Sponsors of VIBE include the Government of the USVI and the USVI Department of Tourism.
